Handique Girls' College, Guwahati is a premier institution of higher education in North East India, which was established on 16th July, 1939.. The College was established by a legendry lady Rajabala Das and has been titled in the honour of the great Radhakanta Handique, who donated 2.5 bighas of land and a capital amount for the cause of higher education for women in Assam.
The great determination of higher education for girls students and love for education of Rajabala Das led the establishment of Handique Girls" College. The Central Library of Handique Girls" College was established along with the establishment of the college in 1939. The first library professional of the library was Late Jogeswar Sharma with a designation of Clark Librarian. In the year 2008 the college authority has decided to modernize the library and shifted the library to a new building located centrally within the college campus comprising of 4924.50 sqft. area in August 2009. The library is named as “Rajabala Das Library” in honour of the founder principal of the college. It is easily accessible to the user community. The library has undergone an expeditious growth in terms of its resources, and infrastructures as time progressed.
The Rajabala Das library plays a very critical role in supporting the academic programmes of the college. It identifies, evaluates, procures, process and then makes these learning resources available to the faculty and students for their teaching-learning and research assignments.
OBJECTIVES
The Rajabala Das Library"s objectives are to-
1. To support teaching-learning needs of the students, teachers and other members
2. To develop comprehensive resources in the Course Curriculum of the college
3. To disseminate the knowledge to the stakeholders and to reach them
4. To create a conducive environment to stimulate knowledge creation among its stakeholders
5. To nurture and promote quality and excellence in education
6. To cooperate with other libraries to meet the expectation and needs of the user.
